Instead of an encoded DVD, you may wish to order an an editable computer file for home editing. We can supply you with an editable file for editing on PCs and MACs. We ask customers to provide an external hard drive or large capacity USB stick for this purpose. Cloud based download is also available.
Although DVDs are known for their durability and can last a lifetime without deterioration in quality, they are still susceptible to damage from scratches or scuff marks.
Even a minor imperfection can render the DVD unplayable. To avoid any loss of your precious footage, we highly recommend ordering an extra DVD backup copy of your cine film transfer work for just £8. This ensures that you have a secure, additional copy in case of any future damage or wear to your primary DVD, giving you peace of mind knowing your memories are safely preserved.
Most 8mm cine film is silent, but there is an exception for those that feature a magnetic brown stripe running along the edge of the film.
If you notice this stripe, there may be sound recorded on your film. This is typically found on reel sizes of 200ft and above. If you wish to have your cine film with sound transferred to DVD, please note that there is an additional charge of 50% over the standard transfer cost.
If your film does not have sound or if you simply prefer a soundtrack to accompany the images, we offer a service where we can add easy-listening background music to silent cine film transfers. This is available at a very affordable price, making it easy to enhance your memories with the perfect soundtrack. Whether it’s a personal touch with your favorite music or just a gentle background ambiance, we can tailor the sound experience to suit your film.
When we receive cine film for transfer, each reel is carefully assessed for any damage and cleanliness before proceeding with the transfer process.
This initial evaluation is done FREE OF CHARGE, as part of our commitment to providing high-quality service. In most cases, the film simply needs a light resplicing and a puff of compressed air to remove any dust, dirt, or hairs that may have accumulated over time. Our experience shows that serious cleaning is rarely needed, and the film is typically in good condition for transfer.
However, on occasion, we may receive film that has been affected by Vinegar Syndrome—a condition where the film gives off a sour, vinegar-like smell due to the chemical breakdown of the film's acetate base.
If we detect this issue, or if we find that the film has been affected by severe mould or mildew, we will contact you directly to discuss the available options. We always prioritize preserving the quality of your film and will ensure you are fully informed about the next steps.
